The Day Global Customer Summit 2006 will be held in the city of Lucerne, Switzerland.
The History of Lucerne
The original settlement was founded in the 8th century as a dependency of a Benedictine convent. In 1178 it broke away from the Convent of Murbach. With the opening of the Gotthard route in the 12th century this small fishing village on Lake Lucerne began to gain in importance, gradually coming into contact with Southern European culture. Being ideally situated on the north-south route, Lucerne became an important trading centre similar to Zurich, Constance and Geneva. Walls were built to protect the inner city and the bridgehead on the south bank of the River Reuss.
